 So here's pertinent info: The Cremins are leaving the UK on July 25th at 10:05 and will be returning back to the UK on August 27th. Thus far we have committed to staying there for 3 weeks but they have said we can stay the whole time if we'd like. Gatwicj Airport is considerably closer than Heathrow but he says there is good train service between their house and London so I suspect connections should be easy. We haven't yet Made our plane reservations but will most likely arrive on Monday the 28th. We are planning to exchange cars with them and the bigger vehicle they have seats 7. Let me know what other information you might need and at a certain point you should probably tell us how to sign into mopkin or whatever. Cheerio! Susan Description of our house Ours is a large modern home, built in the style of Lutyens as a Wealden Country Hall. It is exceptionally comfortable and well appointed and has all amenities on three floors with a three bay detached garage. We love to cook so the kitchen is very well equipped, with granite working surfaces, two ovens, micro wave, fridges, freezer, table and six chairs and double doors leading out into the garden. The dining room has a table seating 12, and the sitting room a fireplace, sofas, chairs and lovely antique furniture. A family room with SKY TV, Hi-Fi system and piano. The large Hall has stairs up to the main double bedroom, (ensuite shower and toilet/sink). Main guest-room with double bed and ensuite bath, toilet and washbasin. Two spacious single bedrooms(with space for second bed). Shower room and toilet/wash basin. Third floor with two computers, (broadband) work area/library/double futon and work tables, plasma screen for computer games. Fitted carpet throughout, calm and colouful home, with many pictures and antique ornaments. Beautiful light comes through mullioned windows, and there is a terrace along the back of the house covered with wisteria and ornamental hops growing over an oak pergola. Large garden and lawn stretching down to open countryside designated an area ofOutstanding Natural Beauty. Deer often graze the pasture next to the garden. Our neighborhood The house sits within the beautiful East Sussex coutryside well away from busy roads so it is gloriously peaceful. The provincial town of Heathfield is 8/9 minutes (in the car)away. The delightful village of Burwash is 4 mins away in the other direction, with a village grocer, butcher and newsagent and three pubs and the church. We are only 1 hr 1/4 by train to London, with all its cultural riches is reached via the local station. Tunbridge Wells with its historic Pantiles and excellent shopping and restaurants is 1/2 hr away by car. Hastings and the sea is 1/2 hr away with its fisherman's area and aquarium. The delightful seaside towns of Rye and Eastbourne are also within easy reach. The world famous National Trust has Bateman's, Rudyard Kiplings' house and Scotney Castle house and gardens very nearby. There is horse riding, tennis, sailing, walking and plenty of opportunities for visiting stately home and enjoying good 'food and English ale' around about. |

Unfortunately, my new project goes live on July 28 with (in principle) three weeks of support. That would put it through August 15. I might be able to swing saying I only stay on for two weeks of support so I can be in Sussex for two weeks but who knows. :(

I fly out there on August 8th and fly back on August 23rd? That's over two weeks and I would only miss the last week of support in my project (August 11-15).
Face it. Your project will be delayed.

From their description, their house must be about half way between the Buxed and Etchinham stations, which are on two different lines. The line that goes through Etchingham is on the same line as Gatwick and Charing Cross, so that's how you'll come from the airport. If you arrive at heathrow, you'll take the tube to Charing Cross and then take the train--I'm bringing a backpack! The costs from Gatwick vs. Heathrow are 13 and 30 pounds, respectively--probably only a little more for round trip.

Flights are expensive! I've gotten up to $885 per person with tax on priceline. (that's a $415 fare) . I'm sorts doubting it will go down at all. What are you guys finding?

I have already blocked out two weeks of vacation from work. The working days I will miss will during the weeks of August 11th and 18th. BTW I also am taking a week off in April starting the 21st and one day in May (the 19th, Victoria Day in Canada) for the Washinton Post Hunt.

I can't go on vacation any earlier due to our project timeline. Also, from what I read the time is available just unlikely we were going to use it. Nothing says I have to be in Europe that entire time. I just figured since it is such a pain to block out vacation time I might as well block out the two weeks right now.

So in celebration of Justin's B-day we are planning to go to Ireland. We would take a Ryan Air flight: Gatwick to Dublin and it would be around $70-80 roundtrip per person.
Hotel room would run probably at most $150/room/night (www.gtahotels.com)
However if its just us kids we could totally do a Hostel.
I was thinking to fly out AM 8/13 and return PM 8/15. Thoughts?

Okay..let me see if this works:
A reminder to all to let your ATM and credit card provider know that you will be using them abroad. For those with B of A accounts apparently they are "partnered" with Barclays Bank so if you use those ATMs there isn't an additional charge. Cheerio!
