Either color can be a human or a computer, so you can play an opponent, play someone next to you on the same screen, or set two of them on each other and watch. Whoever wins the toss goes first.

othello/index.cfm, so unlike the page around it, not one line of it was ever sent to a browser — no crawler could have saved it. What survived is the setup form, and the form names the four opponents: Chaos, Greedy, Strangler and Edgy. They play here as they were described. Merciless is new — there were only ever four.
